When should I open my pool in Massachusetts?
Most pool owners in Massachusetts open their pools in late April or early May, once daytime temperatures consistently reach 70 degrees. Opening earlier helps prevent algae growth and makes the transition easier. We sell pool opening kits with everything you need.
When should I close my pool for winter?
In Massachusetts, you should close your pool in September or October before the first hard freeze. Closing too early wastes swimming time, but closing too late risks freeze damage to your pipes and equipment. We sell pool closing kits and winter covers.
Why is my pool water green?
Green pool water is caused by algae growth, which happens when chlorine levels are too low, pH is unbalanced, or filtration is inadequate. The fix is to shock the pool, balance the pH, run the filter continuously, and brush the walls. Bring a water sample to our store for a free test.
Salt pool or chlorine pool, which is better?
Both systems work well. Salt systems are gentler on skin and eyes and require less daily maintenance, but cost more upfront. Chlorine is cheaper initially but requires more frequent chemical additions. We sell and service both types, so call us to discuss which is right for your pool.
How often should I test my pool water?
Test your pool water at least once or twice a week during swimming season. Check chlorine and pH levels with test strips or a kit at home, and bring a sample to our store monthly for a free professional test of all your water chemistry levels.
