How I Build A Round Swimming Pool

With more then 25 years experience building above ground swimming pools, I am confident when I say we offer the best customer service and the most professional installation your money can buy.
We are the only swimming pool contractors in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to offer a two year warranty on our work. Both swimming pool installs and pool liner replacements.

Pool Layout

When we install our swimming pools we take time to layout the pool first. This way if there is an existing deck or plans for a deck we can be certain the pool placement is right on.

Setting The Blocks

So we now have the grass removed ,the ground is laser leveled and the pool is laid out we set patio blocks with the laser level. These blocks support the pools uprights. We say we get the pool blocks within a quarter inch of one another but we shoot for perfect.

Installing The Bottom Rails

After we get all the blocks set in the ground we level off the ground between the blocks. That’s where the bottom rails will be laying. It’s important to have the ground in between the blocks at the correct height. If the ground is too high the pool wall will lean into the center of the pool or if the ground is too low the wall will not be secured properly. I like to take shots with the laser in between blocks just to make sure.

Pool Base

OK now that we have the blocks down and bottom track in place so can bring in the sand. We spread the sand out about two inches thick and leave small piles of sand for installing the pool cove once the wall is up.

The Pool Wall

We have the sand in the pool area so we can install the pool wall. I lay out sections of plywood to roll the wall on. Then use a tripod to hold the start of the wall. Then unroll the wall past the first joiner plate. The joiner plate is how the track connects and where the uprights fasten. Once we get past the joiner plate we put the upright on and then the top track. We then repeat this process until we get all the uprights on and all the track in place. Now all that’s left is the wall seam.

Connecting The Wall Seam

When we put the bolts through in the wall seam we always start at the bottom and work our way towards the top. This is to ensure the wall doesn’t end up with a wave in it.

Rounding The Pool

The wall is up now it’s time to round the pool. I like to keep a pin in the center of the pool the entire time we are building the pool. The center pin I use to layout the pool is the same pin I use to round the pool. I attach my measuring tape to the pin and measure up to each upright. Once I have the pool round I start building a 6” cove all around the base of the pool wall. We then spray the cove with a little water and use a 10” tamp to compact the cove.

Pool Bottom

Now the cove is squared away we can level and compact the bottom of the pool. I like to use the back of a landscaping rake to trowel the bottom and a plastic lawn roller half filled to roll the bottom of the pool. We add water to the sand to get good compaction.

The Liner

Once the sand looks nice we can spread out the liner. I like to fold the liner over and find the seam that goes all the way around the bottom of the wall. I pull the liner by the seam in towards the pool wall all the way around the pool. We are trying to center the pool liner the best we can. We can fine tune the centering once the liner is installed.
The liner is centered so now we can take at least half of the top track off the pool. And begin to hang the liner. If it’s not windy we can take all the track off and hang the liner all the way around the pool. If there is a breeze I suggest installing half the liner then put the top track back on before taking the next half off.

Removing The Wrinkles

Ok so now the liner is installed and top track is on we can put a vacuum hose through the return hole and tape up the skimmer hole. Once the skimmer hole is taped up turn the vacuum on. With the vacuum on we can kick out all the wrinkles. Once the wrinkles are out we can put the water hose in the pool. We keep the vacuum on until the water is up to the bottom seam in the liner. Once it gets that high we can shut off the vacuum and pull the vacuum hose out of the pool wall.

Finishing Up The Pool

Now we can put all the top seats and top caps on the pool. Lastly we have to hook up the skimmer and filter.
